Yesterday, the sun warmed us as we explored Northfield, MN, after Elizabeth's 7:00 AM treatment. A family friend suggested we take some time to drive the hour to the sweet little home of St. Olaf College, a liberal arts institution with a Harry Potter feel. After walking around the quiet campus, we ventured down the hill into the town where we were able to shop a little and enjoy a cup of coffee. Elizabeth's treatments seem to be leaving her more exhausted this week, so her days are filled with a visit to the proton radiation machine, a few hours of work, and a power nap. The afternoon's weather warmed to nearly 60 degrees and was so delightful, we took a 3 mile brisk walk.
Today's weather, however, reminds us that we are hanging out in the Midwest. A winter storm warning for Minnesota was issued, and the bitter cold wind and gloomy skies warn the weather forecasters may be correct. They anticipate anywhere from 10- 12 inches of blowing snow when the storm moves on. We are hoping they are off the mark, and we have clear driving conditions Friday when we head home for Easter weekend. While it will be a quick trip home, it will be an important one to see immediate family, her boyfriend, and church family. Brian and Elizabeth will return to Minnesota Sunday and take on the final two weeks of treatments. Each day brings something new, and the weather reminds us that nothing is ever constant.
